Conference Fellowships*

The ESHG will again award fellowships to early career investigators as a contribution to attend the ESHG 2022 conference.

All applications need to be made through the online abstract submission. The deadline to apply for a conference fellowship is February 14, 2022. Submissions after the deadline cannot be accepted.

Please note the requirements for fellowships (Categories 1-3, specified below) here:

  • Fellowship applications require the submission of an abstract for the ESHG 2022.
  • Fellowship applications can be submitted through the online abstract submission system.
  • Only early career investigators (= not more than 4 years postdoctoral work experience) can be awarded with a fellowship.
  • Fellowships cannot be received in two consecutive years.
  • Only one fellowship can be awarded to an applicant per year.
  • Only applicants of accepted abstracts can be awarded with a fellowship.

Fellowship (Category 4, specified below)is at the sole discretion of your national society.

1. Conference Fellowships for European Countries

The ESHG provides 70 conference fellowships, which will be awarded by the Scientific Programme Committee to early career investigators (not more than 4 years post-doctoral work experience) from a restricted number of European Countries based on abstract acceptance.

The fellowship comprises the waiving of the registration fee, as well as EUR 300.- as contribution towards travel expenses.

Authors wishing to be considered for these awards should complete the appropriate boxes during abstract submission.

Deadline for application is February 14, 2022.

2. Conference Fellowships for Non-European Countries

The ESHG provides 20 conference fellowships, which will be awarded by the Scientific Programme Committee to Early Career Investigators (not more than 4 years post-doctoral work experience) from a restricted number Non-European Countries (5 fellowships for each region: Central and South America, Africa, Middle East and Asia) based on abstract acceptance.

The fellowship comprises the waiving of the registration fee, as well as EUR 600.- as contribution towards travel expenses.

Authors wishing to be considered for these awards should complete the appropriate boxes during abstract submission.

Deadline for application is February 14, 2022.

3. Conference Fellowships of Excellence

The ESHG provides 5 conference fellowships, which will be awarded by the Scientific Programme Committee to the best submissions by Early Career Investigators (not more than 4 years post-doctoral work experience) based on the peer-reviewing process. No country restrictions apply. This fellowship is not accumulative with the other fellowship categories.

The fellowship comprises the waiving of the registration fee, as well as EUR 600.- as contribution towards travel expenses.

Authors wishing to be considered for these awards should complete the appropriate boxes during abstract submission.

Deadline for application is February 14, 2022.

4. National Fellowships

The ESHG is offering fellowships to Early Career Scientists (not more than 4 years post-doctoral work experience) via the National Human Genetics Societies of Europe.

The national society will select one fellowship holder, which should comply with the following criteria:
– She/he should be a current member of the national society.
– She/he should have shown excellence in the field of human genetics, and/or have given a good presentation/poster at the latest national meeting.
– She/he should not have more than 4 years post-doctoral work experience.
– She/he cannot receive more than one fellowship in consecutive years.
– Only one person per country is eligible.
